I know many of you have been waiting a long time for some of these characters to find their way into the hot seat next to my desk and start telling their story.
After I took a few months back, I realized just how important they were to you, so I have planned accordingly. I must admit I expected more of you to ask for a spin-off of the Scarlet Plumiere Series, but that's just a personal favorite, and I have no doubt those Grim Brothers will show up eventually.
*As you've probably seen elsewhere, we've started RETURN TO CULLODEN MOOR. I couldn't believe you all wanted more when that series was such a monster to begin with. But I learn something new from you guys every day.
Madly Deeply is already out, to be followed weeks later by Truly Fiercely by Diane Darcy. We'll publish others as soon as they are ready.
*Flanders--that's right--Flanders is next! His is book 7 in the Curse of Clan Ross series. And yes, there will be Muirs. Wickham will be needed, obviously, and since the book takes place a decade ago, it's the old Wickham you know and love.
*Next, there is a lot more to tell in the Romantasy series. Bain is headed to Scotland on the back of a DeNoy dragon, and a wild story is unfolding back in Hestia where nearly all the leadership has been eliminated and we have no idea who will emerge to play a role in Hestia's uncertain future.
*Hold onto your butts--Viking Trip is on the schedule. No, really. You asked for it--a LOT of you asked for it, and so Ian and Vivianne have been summoned to the waiting room. I already know this will be one of my all time favorites!!!
*Befuddled and Be Serious are also on the schedule. They're book 2 and 3 of my Cozy Witch Mystery Series that started with Be Witched. Muir witches a' plenty in this one, along with Hootie, the little owl that identifies as anything but. Both books are coming in the fall.
That's all that's planned for now. Of course I'll squeeze in as many Culloden books as I can, which shouldn't be hard now that I'm back to writing full time, and my enthusiam is at 2017 levels!
2025 is going to be epic.

On a personal note, I'll be trying to whittle away at the "things" that fill my house and draw my energy. I have lots of work to do and can't be worried about making room for all the stuff I've accumulated over the years. Today, for example, I'll be donating half of my Christmas decor. Sending off two Christmas trees, dishes that were my mother's, pillows made by my grandmother, and a lot of things I've been hanging onto for sentimental reasons that no longer hold the same sentiment they used to.
My sister is doing the same. If we know in our bones that we won't miss something if it's not around next Christmas, it's destined for the donation box or the trash can. So far, I have almost filled up the bed of the truck. I can't wait to start on the rest of the house, in between books of course.
What are you doing drastic this year?
If you're still reading, Happy New Year! Let's get at it!

    About the room...

There are a number of rooms in my head. Behind one, there is a gnarly table covered with thick open books. If I close those and tuck them away on the shelves, my thoughts become less cluttered. I can focus on whatever is left on the table.

The floor of another room has so many tasseled pillows you can never reach the surface beneath. Tapestries cover the stone walls. (This is from my childhood memory of a movie about Katherine the Great. I think Peter O'Toole was tickled there without mercy.) I loved her room so much, I created one of my own.

The most trafficked place in my head, though, is The Waiting Room. Characters arrive of their own free will. Few are ever asked to leave--even the villains have to be allowed from time to time, though I try to finish their stories and hustle them out the door as quickly as I can.

The room itself is square. No alcoves for characters to hide from me or initiate romances with characters from other books. For example, the main character from a Regency romance started flirting with Isobelle from 1496! I had to get to her story quickly before the relationship could threaten both their happily ever afters.

I have an obsession with white-leather wing-backed chairs, so the waiting room is full of them. Let's face it, there's an actual duke in there and I can't just give him a folding chair from Sam's Club, can I? His given name is Stanley, and like Stanley, many of these characters have been waiting years for their turn. And though they need no food and water, no change of costume or trip to the loo, I like to think I've made them comfortable.

I mentioned that few have been asked to leave. One of those was Mrs. Wiggs, a female gunfighter and a lovely woman for the most part. But she doesn't suffer fools or poor piano playing, so when she shot another character for a weak attempt to entertain the rest, I had to send her and her guns packin'. *snort* Get it? Packin'?

In any case, Mrs. Wiggs will have to bide her time in the waiting room of Bella Bowen until her trilogy is finished. (Bella Bowen is the pen name under which I publish Western romances.) She's better off there. Or at least, the other gun-toting characters will be able to defend themselves... As for the poor piano player, I don't think she's going to make it.
